| Abstract: |
The PIRD approach is to make funds available to groups of producers so that they can carry out their own research – on their own properties. Funded activities must be practical and technically sound and provide value to group members and be completed within a two year period. Groups are supported by a funded coordinator and can draw on technical expertise available.
Lessons learnt - Producers have been able to cooperatively successfully generate and undertake projects on-farm which test technologies and new approaches to their situation. - Localised projects with producer ownership are valuable in engendering interest and acceptance of new technologies and approaches. - Group approaches increase networking and strengthen relationships between producers. - Lack of strong benchmarking and hard evaluation outcomes and clear broader industry benefit can result in loss of funding support. |
