Abstract: These projects were developed to specifically to provide growers with clear, practical knowledge and skills to improve business and guide them through the maze of QM standards and requirements. A series of 10 X 4 hour workshops were held in regional centres over an 18 month period. The concept was to present a parcel of QM information to participants at each workshop then allow one month for them to implement these practices. As part of the delivery, a VET accredited ‘Hazard and Critical Control Point’ training course was delivered. Adult learning and action learning approaches were used.

Lessons learnt

- Simple (QM) systems are needed small to medium business as systems need to be achieved within limited resources.

- Case studies, farm visits and videos provide good grounding of learning into practice.

- Short inputs from experts in specific areas are appreciated in training sessions.

- Mechanisms for support for participants between sequential workshops is beneficial.

- Individual follow-up to participants attending workshop training is important in overcoming the barriers to implementing what people have learnt.
